Nestled in the heart of The Kingdom, Killarney is more than just a stop on the Ring of Kerry. It’s a place that captures hearts and keeps them forever. As a family who chose to move from Argentina to this enchanting town, we can say firsthand that Killarney’s beauty is rivaled only by its warm and welcoming community. From exploring iconic landmarks to savoring the most delicious dinner at Tango Street Food, here’s how to make the most of your visit to Killarney.
Must-Visit Places in Killarney
1. Killarney National Park
No trip to Killarney is complete without wandering through the sprawling Killarney National Park. With its lush landscapes, serene lakes, and majestic mountain views, this park is a paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Our boys love to spot deer and sometimes pretend they’re explorers on a grand safari. Don’t miss Muckross House and Gardens, where history and beauty blend seamlessly.

A visit to Muckross House and Gardens isn’t just about admiring the stunning 19th-century mansion and its beautifully landscaped gardens. It’s about stepping back in time. Here’s a little insider tip: Take a walk to Muckross Abbey. It’s well worth your time!
This hauntingly beautiful ruin is steeped in history and mystery. Don’t miss the ancient yew tree standing majestically in the cloister’s gallery. Its twisted branches have watched centuries pass by. Wander through the old stone chambers, climb the narrow winding stairs, and take a moment to soak in the eerie tranquillity of the surrounding graveyard.
Fun Fact
Did you know that Muckross Abbey is said to have inspired Bram Stoker when writing Dracula? It’s easy to see why—the shadowy corridors and ancient tombs spark the imagination. But don’t worry. The only thing that’ll leave you speechless afterward is the flavor explosion from our traditional Argentinian empanadas or a perfectly crafted Neapolitan pizza at Tango Street Food!

2. Torc Waterfall
Just a short drive from Tango Street Food, Torc Waterfall is a mesmerizing cascade surrounded by enchanting woodlands. The short walk is enough to work up an appetite. It’s perfect for those planning to reward themselves with a tasty dinner at Tango afterwards!

Tip: If you are into hiking, you need to go all the way up to Torc Mountain for the most unbelievable views of Killarney Lakes!

3. Gap of Dunloe
Adventure awaits at the Gap of Dunloe! Whether you explore it by foot, bike, or traditional jaunting cars, this scenic mountain pass will leave you speechless. Our family loves packing a picnic—of course, empanadas are a must! Enjoying the stunning views while savoring our favorite snacks is a delightful experience.

Tip: If you drive a little longer, you will find the Black Valley. We strongly suggest visiting Lord Brandon's Cottage there. If you are not driving or would like to enjoy the lakes, you can also take a boat tour from Ross Castle.
4. Ross Castle
Just a stone’s throw away from Tango Street Food, Ross Castle is a must-visit for history lovers and adventure seekers alike. Perched on the edge of Lough Leane, this 15th-century fortress offers breathtaking views and fascinating guided tours. Our boys love imagining they’re knights defending the castle!

5. Killarney House and Gardens
If you’re looking for a peaceful stroll after a day of sightseeing, Killarney House and Gardens is the perfect spot. Enjoy beautifully manicured gardens and an interactive exhibition about Killarney National Park. The best part? It’s just a short walk from Tango Street Food!
You can enjoy the serene atmosphere while relishing some traditional Argentinian empanadas and a coffee. Alternatively, come and visit us for dinner. It’s the perfect end to a day in Killarney.
